I've been using my film cameras a lot more since making my little camera display. I decided I wanted a fancier strap for my mini Diana (it came with a tiny, black, plain plastic one). So...I made one with some supplies I had on hand & a few I purchased. It was simple & only took me about 10 minutes to make, so I made two!! [tutorial below]
Here are the details:
supplies:
- needle nose pliers
- clasps (found in jewelry section of craft store)
- copper wire (found in jewelry section of craft store)
- safety pin
- leather cord (also found in jewelry section)
steps:
1. cut cord into 3 pieces, attach one end with safety pin to something stable (I used an armchair) & braid until desired length. I made mine 35 inches.
2. slip ends through clasp
3. fold over & wrap excess with copper jewelry wire. I used the pliers to clamp ends down (so I don't get poked) & I trimmed the excess leather
4. TA-DA!!! Now you have a super simple cute camera strap!
I think I like the look of them doubled on the mini Diana! I have some more fun diy's up my sleeve that I will be sharing soon! ♥

So very cute! I need a toy camera, just can't bring myself to add it to my current vintage one that I have yet to use.
ReplyDeleteSo cute ^^
ReplyDeleteNot a huge fan that toy cameras are becoming fashion accessories for hipsters, most of the people I know who own them rarely use them. Good DIY spirit and design though, I may adapt it to create something sturdy enough for my DSLR.
ReplyDeletewhat craft store did you go to? I tried my local one, but they didn't have the right kind of clasp. Any suggestions for bug craft stores in Manhattan???
ReplyDeleteI found mine at Hobby Lobby, in the jewelry section, but I haven't checked to see if Michael's & JoAnns has them. If you don't have any luck finding them in the stores, you could probably order some online. Good luck! :)
Deletegreat thanks!
DeleteHi! I love this! I'm ready to copy the idea for my Diana Mini. I've been looking for the small clasps here in Barcelona without success... could you please put a link to buy them online, the same like yours? I'd be very happy ;)
ReplyDeleteThanks a lot and kind regards,
Ana
