Little Home Tour :: Part One

You have seen a mini tour of our kitchen so I'd thought I would share some bits & pieces from the rest of our little house! There are still plenty of fun projects & decor that I am hoping to add one day but in the meantime, this is where we live (& we love it)! We are renting now, so I try to add as many pops of color & as much character as I can to really make the space ours. I've broken this up into two parts, I'll be posting the living room area on Monday. Enjoy taking a peek into our little dining room area...

You may remember my vintage camera display from my old house (I was inspired by this photo by Tim Melideo Photography). I loved it so much, I just couldn't resist putting it up again. It's such an easy display - just using empty frames & Command wall strips to adhere the cameras to the wall (great for renters because the wall strips come off clean, without damaging the paint).

The whale is a vintage wood hand-carving that my mom gave Creed for Christmas this year. It's one of my newest favorite additions to our little house! Thanks for browsing! I hope you enjoyed. I will be back next week with Part Two. hugs & cheek pecks, meghan ♥

real amazing...

I'm still not sure what it is about a knitted piece that speaks so strongly to me, the texture, the way the stitches look - intertwined & all connected, regardless of the reason I tend to get overly excited when I see amazing knitted goods. The plumper the better in my opinion. When I saw these pieces by Nanna van Blaaderen, I'm pretty sure I drooled...absolutely breathtaking!

slightly obsessed...ukuleles

Okay so this is probably obvious but since receiving my fun Valentine's prize, I have been oh so obsessed with all things ukulele! I have been practicing in my free time & I am having so much fun with this little instrument. From a beginner/novice standpoint, I think the ukulele is very easy to learn & just a super fun instrument to play! I can't wait to get better...

Happy Valentine's Day!

Happy Valentine's Day, friends!! This was one of my favorite holidays growing up (& still is). My mom always made it fun & special & now Creed & I try to as well. We normally don't get caught up in the present-giving side of the day, but this year the husband-extraordinaire surprised me with a ukulele!!! I was so shocked & thrilled when I opened it up! I have mentioned on a few occasions how I would love to learn to play & I think it's beyond sweet that he remembered. It's also a thoughtful gift because we can use it together - he's going to help teach me - I know the basics of guitar but this cute little uke is slightly different to play! I'm already learning a few tunes...I just love my valentine's cute face to pieces!! I am so thankful to have him as my partner in life. This is our 10th hearts day together & I am looking forward to many, many more!

Today is also the birthday of one special lil' pug - Miss Olive!! She turned 3 today & we gave her an apple slice with peanut butter icing for her bday cake! ha!! (happy birthday, my sassy lil' puglet)

our weekend

This weekend we:
-made gigantic burritos & ate them all up
-watched lots of movies...Drive - *sigh* oh Ryan G, be still my heart, it was super intense but the whole time I kept waiting for him to say "hey girl...". We also watched Warrior & Restless. Warrior was the husbands choice, it was just the MMA version of Rocky. Restless was of course my choice...it was good, sad but good.
-went on another froyo date, this time we tried Aspen Leaf, it's in walking distance from our house & yummo. I foresee many spring & summer outings there...
-did I mention we had a snow storm?! That probably should've been first on the weekend list. We got a good 13 or so inches & it felt just as exciting as when I was 10 & woke up to that much snow!! I used being snowed in as an excuse to sleep in each morning, get extra snuggles & eat lots of cupcakes.
-I watched more Greys while I worked on some orders. Slight spoiler alert...but GEORGE!!! That's all I'll say but I was shocked & I cried my face off.
-got some supplies to make a birthday prize for a very special someone...I'll share if it turns out how I would like.

Chevron Stripe Fridge DIY

You may remember my striped wall from our old house. Ohhhhh, how I loved those stripes! Well now that we are renting & unable to paint the walls, I wanted to incorporate some stripes into our new house & I did so by adding a little pizzaz to our boring black refrigerator! The kitchen is the first room you see when you walk in our apartment, so this adds a fun focal point when you first walk in the door! I love how it turned out! It's so simple, very inexpensive & easily removed, here is how I did it:

Supplies::
White Contact paper - I got mine at Target in the drawer liner section for a few bucks
Measuring tape & T square ruler
Scissors or X-acto knife

Instructions::
1. I measured the width of our fridge & included extra for the sides of the doors so I could wrap the stripes around.
2. I cut five pieces of contact paper to the desired width.
3. I decided I wanted 3 big peaks on the front so I drew a grid pattern with my t-square by dividing the contact paper into 6 squares across & 3 down. I connected the points of intersection to create the zig zag pattern.
4. I lined all 5 sheets of contact paper together & taped them down to the table so I could cut out all 5 at the same time. (I only ended up using 5 stripes for the fridge, this will make 10, I wanted extras just in case.)
5. I carefully cut out the chevron stripes with my straight edge & x-acto knife.

6. Once they were all cut out, I placed a marker on the mid-point of the front of our fridge & very gently applied each stripe.

& that's it!! Super easy, cheap & fun!!

I love how much big character it adds to my little kitchen & it's perfect for renters because the contact paper easily peels off & leaves no residue!! I would love to see photos if you try this too! Let me know if you have any questions. xoxo. meghan

12 goals in 2012

Last year I did a 20 goals in 2011 & although I didn't complete all of the goals on my list it was still a fun little reminder to step outside of my normal routine. This year I thought I would make it even easier on myself & just shoot for 12 simple goals in 2012!

Most of my goals are self explanatory but some may not be so here is the list with a little explanation.

1. take a hot air balloon ride - one of my dreams since childhood! This will be the year I can feel it, also we now live in the vicinity of a big handful of hot air balloon tour companies & I see hot air balloons in the air daily. I got to see one take off a few weeks ago & my heart almost exploded....

2. start a quilt - this one is kind of funny if you know more about my details with my aforementioned job fiasco but nonetheless this will still be a goal of mine (& it has been for the past two years...so it's time to at least start one this year.)

3. penpals & sending more snail mail - I have already been doing a great job with this goal, being this far away from all my friends & family makes this particular goal kind of fun! I know I love receiving snail mail from them so I can't wait to send more to them...

4. make more handmade gifts - I have been compiling a list of fun diy's & handmade gift ideas, I can't wait to put them to good use & to share some on here. (pinterest makes this goal so easy, add me if you have an account, my username is mpdesigns)

5. cook my moms famous lumpia - my parents lived in the Phillipines for awhile before I was born & my mom learned how to make filipino lumpia, which essentially is their version of an eggroll. If you know my family you know that this is a prized recipe. All of our friends & family that have had it, ask my mom to make it anytime they come visit. It takes time to make them, so we only have them on special occasions (& it's the most delicious meal you will ever have). She even changed the recipe slightly to make vegetarian ones for me years ago - BUT can you believe I've never tried to make them by myself?!?! I'm 28 & have lived away from home for far too long not to try these on my own....(I'm scared, mom, come help me). :)

6. do more outdoor workouts - there is no excuse for this one. There are great running/biking trails right outside of my front door.

7. road trip to surrounding areas - there are amazing places to take day trips to not only in Colorado but also Wyoming, etc. I'm making a list for this summer!

8. join a group/club - I'm hoping this will help me make some new friends. If you are in the Boulder area & want to do a knitting, reading or craft night let me know!

9. bike to the grocery store - there is a grocery store, coffee shop & yogurt shop in biking/walking distance from our house. I can't wait to bike there in the spring/summer. I have to get a bike first...but baby steps.

10. bake a pie from scratch - I still have never done this, shame on me.

11. blog more - I want to get better about documenting our life but also I want to get better about commenting on all the blogs I love & read daily.

12. make time for myself & my family - this one has been hard for me since I started working from home on my own small business. I have a hard time taking time off or working on projects for myself. I want to start making time to create new things & just get refreshed.

So that's that! Looking forward to accomplishing these goals in 2012. & I know I'm a little late on posting these, but at least I got it posted in January, even if it's the last day of the month!

our weekend

This weekend we:

-had a friday date night at Whole Foods, the salad/hot bar there is the best!

-had our first froyo date since moving here (we tried Spooners, soooo yummy!)

-watched a million episodes of Grey's Anatomy. I never thought I would like that show, but they have all the past seasons on Netflix, I started from the beginning & now I can't get enough...I'm so hooked!!

-started a new knitting project for myself (a new cranberry red hat!)

-finished a bunch of knitting orders

-went on a looooong walk with my pups on Sunday & ended up at the little lake above. I'm pretty sure it will be one of my new favorite hideaways to ponder the universe & whatnot. The views were pretty breathtaking. Exploring my surroundings here in Colorado is my new favorite!

soul searching

I have been quiet for awhile on here, so I thought I would give a little update. This will be a rambling collection of my recent thoughts, so I apologize in advance. Being raised as an "air force brat" & moving about every 4 years of my childhood, you would think that moving to a completely new place would be an easy task. & while the transition has been pretty smooth, being an adult & moving to a completely new town comes with its own set of hiccups.

Friends:: It's actually kind of hard to make friends as an adult, I find myself being so much more apprehensive about just throwing myself out there. I know we have only been here for a month but I am at a loss as to where to begin with this step. Where do you find people your own age & with the same interests?! I think as adults, even if we don't like to admit it, we worry so much more about what new people will think about us. It's not as easy as sharing your pudding cup with the cute girl that sits next to you in the first grade & then becoming bffs....I mean, if I just walked around asking people to share my pudding cup now, I am pretty sure someone would call the authorities.

Job:: Okay, so this is probably too in-depth of a subject to tackle without having its own full post. BUT I decided upon moving here & with the husband going back to school that I wanted to transition into a slightly more stable, full-time job outside of the home & outside of Pleasantly Plump [Knits.]. This left a lot of questions as to what I was going to do with my little handmade business & really what direction I wanted to pursue. I found & applied to a company that I thought would be right up my alley creativity wise, something that would create that spark in me that leaves me motivate & fulfilled. Without going into too lengthy of an explanation, I was hired & worked a full week there & decided that it really wasn't for me. The company was great, but the job position just didn't fill my needs & it wasn't fair to me or the company to stay there. This was a hard pill to swallow for me, I have never accepted a position somewhere & decided within the week to not return. I went through several emotions- guilt, feeling like I had failed, a little embarrassed, & worrying that my family & friends would think I was crazy...but at the end of the day I know that this is my one life to live. I get to make up the rules & I also get to make the decisions that will make me the happiest & grow as a person. The other side of taking that job meant that I would have to shut down my shop, at least to made-to-order transactions. I never realized how weird & almost painful that would be to do, I have put my shop into vacation mode plenty of times in the almost 4 years I have had it, but this felt different, it felt permanent & it also felt like I was losing one of my best friends. So, I still have no answers for this subject, I am still going to pursue another job but Pleasantly Plump [Knits.] will stay open for the time being. Is it crazy to wish for a happy medium?! A job I love outside of my handmade business but one that leaves me refreshed & motivated enough to continue to pursue & grow Pleasantly Plump [Knits.]?! I don't know the answer right now, but I am going to continue to try to find it.

Location:: This is actually the fun & upbeat part of our move. Overall, I am SO happy we decided to take this huge leap. I love where we live & wake up every morning & look out our windows to those gorgeous mountains & thank my lucky stars that we were able & brave enough to move here. Boulder, Colorado is an absolutely stunning place!! I feel safe here & feel that sense of belonging. I feel overly grateful & excited about our adventure daily. I have beautiful parks & walking/biking trails right outside of our door. The pugs & I take daily walks & discover new & beautiful things every time we go out. & can we talk about the sunrises & sunsets here, good gracious! Also, the weather here is so different than Georgia, normally gorgeous baby blue skies & sunny but will drop a few inches of snow every few weeks. I can honestly say that I love it & I seriously can't wait to see what spring & summer brings.

I guess that really brings my life up to speed. I am looking forward to this year & trying to convince my friends & family to come out & visit. I wish they would all just move here, I want to share it so bad! If you made it this far in my post, thanks for reading!! Happy New Years Eve!!! What better way to display the comings & goings of my year than through my instagram feed. This is just a small selection (perhaps I take too many photos...) but I feel it accurately portrays all the fun & colorful things we did this year, plus or minus a few things. 2011 has gone by in a flash & in true Meghan & Creed fashion, we ended it with a bang by moving cross country! I can't wait to see what 2012 has in store for us - I have a feeling its going to be legendary!!

white christmas

How lucky were we to get a white Christmas this year? It still hasn't totally sunk in yet that we actually live here. We will get to look at those beautiful mountains everyday & have so many new places to explore! I am so excited for 2012 & know that it's going to be such an amazing transforming year!

This year was the very first year (in the 28 years of my life) that I haven't spent Christmas eve/Christmas morning waking up at my parents house. I was a little worried that with this being the case & with the recent move, I was going to be a bit melancholy. I decided early on to face it with positivity & look at it as way to make new traditions for Creed & myself. & I have to be completely honest, I enjoyed every second of our little Christmas in Colorado. I got to FaceTime with most of my family in Georgia & the rest of the time was spent relaxing & cuddling with the two puggies & my husband (most of the time in our pajamas). A successful & very happy Christmas, if I do say so myself.

We carried over a few traditions that we usually do with my family, like starting a puzzle on Christmas Eve (we finished it on Christmas day). We also get special Christmas pj's every year & we took full advantage of wearing them.

On Christmas morning, we got up at our leisure & made Christmas breakfast - orange danish rolls & veggie sausage in a blanket. Then we opened up all our prizes, my mom did way too much for us (as always) & made sure all her packages arrived in time. (how awesome is this RetroWhale print I got from Creed?!?! I'm so in love)

Then I made us a late Christmas lunch/dinner - twiced baked potatoes, roasted asparagus, roasted brussel sprouts, green bean casserole & honey glazed carrots. Yum!! We took naps, watched lots of Christmas movies & then played in the snow!!

Overall, I just felt extremely lucky & grateful to have the family I do have (no matter how far away) & to be exactly where I am in my life at this moment. I know that 2012 is going to be amazing & I can't wait to explore this new chapter in our lives! I hope everyone had a warm & merry Christmas! hugs & cheek pecks, meghan ♥

goodbye house...

We have been packing up a storm all week. Our little house is filled with boxes & echoes now...

We have been so busy trying to get everything done that it hardly seems real that we will be moving across the country in a few days. I am very excited about finally heading out west & starting this new chapter in our lives but it has been hard saying goodbye to all of our good friends.

These words pretty much sum up how I'm feeling....

"All changes, even the most longed for, have their melancholy; for what we leave behind us is a part of ourselves; we must die to one life before we can enter another." - Anatole France

& although my Home will always be wherever I'm with him (& them) this little house will hold a special place in my heart forever. We moved in just a few weeks before we got married & I can remember the overwhelming sensation of gratitude & love that this place was "ours." These walls hold so much love, laughter & happiness from the last 3+ years, I know our time here will never be forgotten.

We brought our 2 pug babies home here & watched them grow. We hand built them the sweetest little fence so they could run.

& who can forget the day during one winter that a pipe froze & burst in our wall causing most of the downstairs to flood, we lost some carpet & had to cut some huge holes in the wall to repair the pipe. I cried a lot that day...but the water dried, the holes got patched, the floor got tiled, we can laugh about it now & most importantly we survived, like we always will.

I painted these walls and then painted them again....

I created my little business here & poured my heart into watching it grow into something that I am so proud of.

We fostered our marriage here; we grew as individuals & as a couple. We learn more about each other every day (even after 10 years) & I'm so thankful to have him as my partner in life.

We made big plans for our future here & found the bravery to start to follow through with them.

We made so many amazing memories here...

I wish I could shrink you down & put you in my pocket, sweet little house of mine but instead I will carry you in my heart forever, for you are but a small chapter in this amazing story we are writing of our lives.

So...goodbye to my striped entryway walls, goodbye to our sweet little picket fence & yard, goodbye to my big bathroom window with a view, goodbye to my little Georgia house on the hill. ♥

christmas cards

It's that time of year again....to send out Christmas cards. Last year (if you remember) was my very first year sending out cards. I know it's sad, I still have a hard time remembering I'm an adult most days. Anywho, I wanted to keep up the tradition this year, even though we are in the middle of moving. I needed something quick, simple & within our small budget (we are saving all our pennies, moving is darn expensive!)

So this year I picked up some blank non-Christmasy cards that were on clearance at Target ($2 for a 10 pack) & decided to jazz them up a bit to use as our Christmas cards. I used my tool of choice - Sharpies - & the rest is history...well once I sign & address all of them.

house hunting & Happy Thanksgiving!!

We just recently took a quick trip out to Boulder, CO to do a little house hunting before we make the move...because, well, having a place to live when we get there is pretty important! We found a place that is perfect for us & our sweet puglets & I couldn't be happier or more excited!! I have so many things to be thankful for on this particular Thanksgiving & this new adventure is definitely pretty high on the list.

I was kinda sad to leave Boulder but I know we will be back soon enough!! Here are some instagram photos from our little trip...

slightly obsessed...big chunky knits

In honor of our new adventure, I thought it would be fun to share one of my newest obsessions....big CHUNKY knitwear!!

Colorado's winters are going to be quite a bit colder than what we are used to in Georgia, this just gives me the excuse to knit some chunky warm things for myself! I have casted on a few projects lately, one being a simple, chunky, seed stitch scarf that isn't finished yet & the second being this hat! It was such a quick & fun project & I love the outcome (I will definitely be making more & some for gifts)!

If you would like to knit your own hat, I found the pattern on Ravelry & it is called the Cordova hat by Jen LaCroix. I used Lion Brand Wool-Ease Thick & Quick yarn in Cobalt & followed the pattern directly.

I also have compiled a list of super chunky knitting patterns for future projects & to get you slightly obsessed as well...

The first being this over the top Triple Play Scarf Pattern from Lion Brand. (*all patterns listed here from Lion Brand are free but you have to sign up for a free login to access the actual pattern)

Maybe it's just me...but this crazy-plump scarf makes me actually drool a little bit!! I know I tend to get overly excited about knitted items, but how can you not be in love with this! Despite the questionable practicality of the piece, I would love nothing less than to wrap myself up with this knitted beast on a cold winter day & have a Christmas-movie-marathon-snuggle-fest on the couch...just sayin'. (p.s. this pattern apparently calls for 20 balls of yarn & size 50 knitting needles....yikes!) But seriously...I need to make this.

we're moving!!!

There's been some big changes & planning going on in our household lately!!! These last few months have been so busy & have flown by so fast....we have decided to take the plunge & move cross-country to Boulder, Colorado!!!

We are so very excited! It's still slightly overwhelming for the ultra-control-planning freak that I am because it feels like a million things still need to be done but I am taking it day by day & trying to enjoy every second of it! I will be sad to leave my friends & family that live nearby but I can't wait to start this new amazing chapter in our lives!! Being an air force brat growing up, I got used to moving about every 4 years of my life. I have lived in Georgia now for over 13 years....so I am about 9 years overdue for a move, :) I am definitely ready for the change & adventure!

My husband-extraordinaire will be pursuing his Ph.D (mr. smarty pants!) & me & the puglets will be along for the awesome ride!! I will try to keep everyone updated during our journey on here. We don't have an exact departure date yet, but if everything goes as planned we will be leaving Georgia for colorful Colorado in the first part of December! (I'm kinda hoping for a white Christmas this year!)

I have a feeling 2012 will be the best year yet!! Can't wait to experience this new adventure!

Yesterday we celebrated little miss Razzy's 1st birthday! She got a new toy & lots of extra snuggles!

I can't believe this sweet tiny thing...

has grown into this little lady, in what seems like such a short amount of time.

We made her wear the birthday crown for a quick photo, she wasn't super pleased about it but I bribed her with plenty of treats. Happy 1st Birthday Miss Razzle Dazzle, she's a princess indeed....

I thought it would be fun to do a little summer 2011 re-cap list. I feel I'm a tad late, but it's better late than never. So here goes....

This summer we:

+ ate ridiculous amounts of frozen yogurt, Jimmy Johns sandwiches & burritos

+ watched every single re-run of How I Met Your Mother, it was legen --- wait for it ---- dary!!!

+ had work schedules that allowed us to workout together in the middle of the day (I so loved this)

+ witnessed the beauty of amazing sunsets (see above photo) on more than one occasion

+ cried the saddest, most heartbreaking tears but then cried the happiest, most joyful tears exactly 2 months later

+ took full advantage of Regal Theaters $5 Tuesday movie nights

+ stayed up way past our bedtime most nights

+ began making new holiday traditions for our little family

+ got to see Florence & the Machine live (ahhhhmazing)

+ went to the midnight showing of the last Harry Potter movie

+ made some fun home decor changes, here, here & here

+ celebrated my blog's one year anniversary & then took a little vacay from blogging for the whole month of August

+ spent an amazing summer day up in Helen, Ga with friends tubing down the Chattahoochie

+ had our California trip all planned & ready to go only to have to cancel at the very last minute (kind of a long story that involved a trip to the emergency vet with our Razzle because she consumed a 16 inch piece of braided rug....how is that even possible you ask?! I'll spare you the gory details but she's completely fine now. Still naughty but fine.)

+ realized that sometimes the let down of having to change big plans like the aforementioned occasion can lead to much, much bigger & better things....funny how life works out like that.

Overall my summer was amazing. I wouldn't trade it for anything because I got to spend it with my Creed. We have been making some big decisions about our future in the past couple of weeks. This has involved long late night discussions & a lot of what if's & up in the air's (I will share soon when we get a better grasp on everything). I couldn't be happier or more excited with where our life is headed. I just need to remember to breathe & enjoy every second of it. It seems to go by so fast! Happpy Fall!! hugs & cheek pecks!

We have had a few days lately where the weather has been slightly cooler & there was the hint of a Fall breeze. It got me thinking about bicycles & how nice it would be to have one to ride around on when the weather finally gets bearable.

camera purse diy

I have been wanting a prettier & easier camera bag/purse to carry around with me because I always get worried I'm going to mess up my camera by letting it just bounce around in my normal purse.

So.....I made one. I bought a decent size bag from Target (my purses are usually big) & made a little padded insert to turn it into a camera bag & TADA!!! it works perfect. It will be the perfect tote to travel with, as there is plenty of room for my kindle, wallet & all my other purse do-dads. The insert is removable if I ever decide to change it out.

I used this tutorial from Tales of the Wife. It was super simple to make! I have room for my camera (fits in the empty spot on the right), one extra lens & a film camera (like my instax or mini diana). My kindle fits down the side & there is about 5 or 6 inches on the top to place my wallet & sunglasses.

I'm so pleased with how it turned out & love that the bag has the shorter handles along with the shoulder strap. This little project definitely gave me the sewing bug so I can't wait to try my hand at sewing some more projects this fall! Happy Friday!!

Hello! I took a small blog-cation for the month of August, did-ya miss me?!? Well no worries because I'm back & excited about the month of September & Fall in general. It's my favorite time of the year, after all.

We had a pretty fun summer, at the beginning of August we took a little day trip up to Helen, GA & participated in the very southern ritual of tubing down the Chattahoochee River. It was really a fun summer day, spent with some great friends. Helen is a cute little tourist-y town that is made to look like a Bavarian Alpine village. They have an amazing Oktoberfest (that I have yet to attend, because it's usually crazy packed with people) & there are cobblestone paths, horse-drawn carriages & amazing little candy shops full of candied apples & delicious fudge. I only had time to snap a few shots of the sweet little town before we hopped in our tubes (without my un-waterproofed camera) & floated down the river!

Looking forward to saying goodbye to this summer heat & greeting the Fall season with open arms! Especially our upcoming California trip, I can hardly wait!

sweet baby Tate!

It's a BOY! My newest nephew arrived on his due date, July 25th! He was a whopping 9lbs 4oz! I'm so proud of my sis-in-law Kate, she did an amazing job with the delivery (& with no epidural, she's a champ)!! We got in the car as soon as we could on Monday & drove down to meet the new little guy on his first day of life. There really isn't anything more magical than holding a newborn baby & oh my goodness he smelled so sweet & had the most precious, squishy little face!

Welcome to the world baby Tate!!! Here he is with his proud papa, my brother Trebor....

I can't wait to watch this little man grow! This brings the tally to 7 nieces & nephews for Creed & me. & we are the last out of all our siblings to not have any children....*gulp*

summer treats

One of my favorite treats during the summer - especially to stay cool - is little trips to Sonic! A Route 44 Cherry Limeade can really cure just about anything. We went there the other day right after working out (oops) & it really hit the spot! I'm thinking we may need to take another trip today! It is Friday after all!

I am really excited about this weekend, I feel like I have lots of fun things to do! Here's a little list:

- I have all the supplies to start on some fun new projects - this means busting out the sewing machine - if I'm successful I will share. :)
- I want to try THIS recipe for baked cake doughnuts (I've been craving them)! If you have made some & they were delicious please share the recipe!
- We are patiently (& anxiously) awaiting the arrival of my newest niece or nephew, I'm still voting it's going to be a girl! Come on baby Marple!!!! If this happens we are road tripping down to meet this new little bundle! I'm so excited!
- & lastly we booked our trip to CALIFORNIA this week! We have exactly one month to plan out what we are going to do while we are there & for me to plan what outfits I'm going to wear (because girls think about these things...)

toy camera strap diy

I've been using my film cameras a lot more since making my little camera display. I decided I wanted a fancier strap for my mini Diana (it came with a tiny, black, plain plastic one). So...I made one with some supplies I had on hand & a few I purchased. It was simple & only took me about 10 minutes to make, so I made two!! [tutorial below]

Here are the details:

supplies:
- needle nose pliers
- clasps (found in jewelry section of craft store)
- copper wire (found in jewelry section of craft store)
- safety pin
- leather cord (also found in jewelry section)

steps:
1. cut cord into 3 pieces, attach one end with safety pin to something stable (I used an armchair) & braid until desired length. I made mine 35 inches.
2. slip ends through clasp
3. fold over & wrap excess with copper jewelry wire. I used the pliers to clamp ends down (so I don't get poked) & I trimmed the excess leather
4. TA-DA!!! Now you have a super simple cute camera strap!

I think I like the look of them doubled on the mini Diana! I have some more fun diy's up my sleeve that I will be sharing soon! ♥

A couple of months ago I decided to use some left over chalkboard paint to paint a wall in our kitchen/dining nook. I love how it turned out & I enjoy changing it every month. My go-to outfit during the summer is usually an airy skirt, a comfortable cotton tee, my moccasins & throwing my hair up in milkmaid braids or buns, you really can't go wrong & there are so many different variations! We went out to dinner with our sister in law on Saturday & this outfit was perfect to stay cool. I brought along my diana mini & shot some slide film to cross process, can't wait to finish the roll & get it developed! Happy Monday! for the love of film friday

As mentioned in this new goals post back in May, I wanted to start getting back to my roots in traditional photography. My very first camera was a basic Polaroid 600 followed by lots of simple film point & shoots. In high school, I longed for something more substantial & started begging my parents for an analog SLR, they appeased my requests one Christmas & my love for traditional film was born. I learned how to develop my own black & white film in a darkroom & carried on with that through my college years as a fine arts major. I was very hesitant to jump on the digital photography bandwagon, but now that I have, I have noticed I use my film cameras less & less. (sadness) In an effort to change that I thought it would be fun to start sharing some of my film photography periodically in a new feature called For The Love Of Film.

This is some of my older work, from a study abroad trip to Italy when I was still in college.

Shot with my trusty Pentax ZX-L, using T-Max 400 black & white film & hand developed by me.

For larger & more images from this set go here. It's a little painful to look through these again, it leaves me with this deep yearning to go back to Italy. It was the most amazing summer I have ever had & I am so glad I was able to capture some of that beauty on film. & seriously the graininess & saturation of T-Max 400 film?!?! I have a small (but growing) collection of vintage electric fans. I actually use mine to fill the space above my cabinets in my kitchen. I would love to have a whole cluttered collection of them up there so I am always on the look out for them. Here are some photos of my tiny collection so far...the "little giant" is my favorite!

Road Trip Kit & The Golden Gift Giving Rules

If you know me well, then you know that one of my favorite things is gift giving! The whole process is so fun for me, I love picking out the perfect gift & I also love wrapping it! I probably get more excited about the gifts I give than the people that are receiving them. I blame my mom for this fascination, she is the most amazing gift giver ever...it's usually hard to top her. She taught me everything I know about the subject & now I will entrust you with her secrets...

A few of her golden gift giving rules/tips are:

1. Great gifts don't have to cost a lot of money. Think outside the box, you can find unique items in unexpected places - dollar stores, thrift stores, tj maxx, marshalls, big lots, cracker barrel's, local markets/handmade markets, cute local candy/general stores in your downtown areas & of course if you plan ahead, the world wide web (fredflare, photojojo, etsy, ebay, etc.)

2. Presentation is everything! Think of inventive ways to really wow the receiver before they even open the gift. I usually try to hand-make the wrapping paper &/or the card, I try to make something they can reuse (like if you make the card into a little piece of artwork, they could possibly frame it)

3. Collecting lots of small, inexpensive items & presenting them in fun little reusable containers not only looks amazing but can be so fun for the receiver to open. (tj maxx & marshalls always have the greatest little containers, all shapes, styles & colors) - [my mom wraps our christmas presents in stackable boxes every year (that she always matches to our home decor), each box has prizes in them & then we get to use the boxes to decorate with - I can't tell you how fun this is! My sister-in-laws & I always try to figure out which stacked boxes are ours under the tree each year!]

4. With regards to rule #3, it's fun & easier to find smaller prizes for a "basket" if you pick a theme. (this could be colors, event, hobby, home decor, etc. - the possibilities are endless)
5. Don't be afraid to hand-make your gift!! Some of my all-time favorite things are handmade. If you don't have any ideas of what to make, try searching the internet for diy's that fit your "crafting" abilities.

These golden rules can apply to any type of gift, no matter how big or small the event - birthdays, house warmings, hostess gifts, showers, care packages etc. The more creative you get the better!! & the receiver always notices the extra thought & work you put into the gift!

So with all that said, I will share with you one of my recent fun gifts I gave. My amazing sister-in-law is moving ALL the way from Georgia to New Mexico! She is so brave & adventurous, I love that about her! We had a little going away dinner with her recently & I knew I wanted to get her something special for her travels. She is road-tripping it across the country (I am so jealous I can't tag-along)! I decided to put together a little Road Trip Kit to keep her company along the way & to have little reminders of us on her journey.

weekend peeks

Yes you saw right, Creed is now the proud owner of a motorcycle. Yikes! He was like a little boy on Christmas morning getting to ride his shiny new red bike when he brought it home, it was really cute with a side of scary...

We had a little lunch date at one of my fav sandwich places & then explored our surrounding area by taking some back streets (one of my favorite things to do). We found some pretty views of the nearby Kennesaw mountain (maybe some potential future photoshoot places), all the while sipping on a nice cold coffee treat! It really was a fun long weekend!

4th of july picnic

We originally planned to have a little picnic outside & to watch some fireworks - but - mother nature decided she preferred thunder storms. So on to plan b, a little indoor picnic. I set up our picnic quilt & we had a nice little feast.

I used this vegan Creamy Avocado Potato Salad recipe from Post Punk Kitchen. Holy YUM! It was seriously the most delicious potato salad I have ever eaten!!!! Vegan or not you must try it, especially if you are an avocado fan!

I made my own pimento cheese recipe, it goes a little something like this - bag of shredded sharp cheddar, dollop or two of mayonnaise (or vegenaise if you prefer), a small jar of diced pimento (drained), a dash or two of salt & pepper, a dash of cayenne pepper & a dash of garlic salt. mix it all up & let it cool in the fridge! YUM!

I was lazy this time & used the canned Bush's vegetarian baked beans & added some seasoning & a little bit of barbeque sauce to jazz it up a bit.

Now on to the dessert (which I didn't photograph)...I used this Banana, Peanut Butter & Chocolate Vegan Ice Cream recipe that was guest blogged on Love Elycia by Kaylah of the Dainty Squid! Seriously the easiest recipe to make & soooooo delicious, it's really rich & totally hits the spot if you are craving something chocolatey! It's a perfect summer treat & I am sure I will be making it a lot!

*the star ice cube tray came from ikea & those amazing little food trays were a thrift shop find (I'm guessing old school lunch trays?!), I passed them up the first time & then went back the next day because I knew I could figure out something to do with them - (hello! indoor picnic trays)- I have like 8 of them- love!!! ;)

We had so much fun! I love that we are starting all our own little traditions for holidays!

entryway makeover

It seems my little room makeovers always happen on a whim, while taking photos for my last post, I noticed how neglectful I have been of our entryway. Quite frankly, it was boring. The ceiling is very tall & I have always been too intimidated to paint it (we would have to find a very, very tall ladder), the artwork I hang always seems dwarfed - I needed something to break up the space & then it came to me - STRIPES!

Of course I couldn't waste any time so I spent the majority of yesterday working on it (& by majority I mean a good 8 hours, stripes are serious business). I had the vision of what I wanted it to look like, a way to break up the room but still keep the spacious appeal & I couldn't be happier with how it turned out. It's such a simple element added but it really adds some personality to the room. I'm not done decorating the space yet but I just couldn't wait to share photos of it, I am so in love. ♥ Without further ado, our new re-vamped entryway...

Tips & Info:
- I used my trusty t-square & level to mark the lines for the tape, I actually drew out all the lines, I found it to be the easiest way for me to ensure the lines were straight
- my stripes are 10 inches wide (I painted 6 stripes)
- I used Frog Painters Tape to mask the stripes, it was my first time using that brand & it was amazing. The only touch-ups I had to do was from getting too crazy with the roller.
- I recommend taking the tape off after the second coat, while it's still wet, this way you don't pull off paint from the stripes when it's dry
- the paint color I used for the stripes was Behr - Wheat Bread, it's the same color I used in the adjoining hallway & family room, it visually blends nicely.
- the base paint color was there when we bought the house, its an off-white eggshell (not sure of the brand or name)
- the whole project took me about 8 hours (I took breaks in between), about 6 hours to mark & mask the lines & only about 2 hours to do 2 coats of paint.

film & camera display

Some of you may remember my vintage camera display that I did earlier this year...well I have been wanting to do a similar idea for the traditional film cameras that I use as well. I knew I wanted something convenient, so it would entice me to bring some of my film cameras along when I leave the house instead of always forgetting them. I believe I found my solution on my latest thrifting excursion.

I bought this crate (I think it was a wine crate of some sort, it has a "napa valley" stamp on the back) for a few bucks at my favorite thrift store last week; I put four holes in the back & hung it proudly by the front door. It does the trick perfectly if I do say so myself...

In case you are curious here is the info on the cameras from left to right...
top row: Instax white mini, 35mm slide film (to cross-process), original lomo lc-a (they stopped making them in 2005, but make a similar lc-a+ now), holga 120
second row: instax mini film, mini diana, action sampler camera, colorsplash camera
third row: Polaroid sun 600, Polaroid izone 200 (this takes itsy bitsy polaroid photos, I only have like 15 expired packs of film left), pop 9 camera, & expired polaroid film for my holga back

I just felt the need to share with you that my little Razzy is not only not-so-little anymore but pretty much full grown. For some reference here she is at 2 months old & 4 months old.

Olive is about the same plus or minus a few pounds (let's be honest, plus a few pounds). In fact at her recent vet check-up, her vet referred to her as "portly," I quickly covered Olive's ears & said "watch your tone, doctor." Okay not really, but we did make a point to reassure Olive that she was beautiful the rest of the evening after having to cut back on her food intake (sad portly pug). Enough with the rambling...here's some photos of my pleasantly plump puggies, all grow'd up! (razzy's almost 9 months & olive is 2 years)

My friend Melissa & I went to the ICE atlanta show today & this is what I wore (my excuse for not using my real camera for my outfit photos is that I was in a rush, shame shame)! BUT it's one of my new goals so the next outfit photos I post will be better quality, promise!

The ICE atlanta show was fun! There was definitely some really cute stuff made by some very talented artists! I was a good girl & only bought one thing. Because every person (or dog) should have an 'itty bitty crown' of their own...& who could possibly resist?! Here is little Olive modeling it for you...

It was purchased from Molly of Stitch Mouth, I don't think she has any listed in her shop, but she makes all sizes & would probably do a custom order. They have little elastic straps to attach under the chin & they look really cute on humans too! If Olive will share, I plan on wearing mine for special occasions (birthdays, trips to the grocery store, cooking dinner...you get the picture)!

Package Re-Design

I finally took some photos of my new Pleasantly Plump [Knits.] packaging! The most important aspect for this re-design was providing an aesthetically pleasing package but keeping it completely earth friendly (my previous packaging was great but mainly plastic & not very environmentally friendly).

The new box & tissue paper is made out of 100% recycled content & the twine is made in the USA & 100% cotton. I used a theme of growth & earth in my previous packaging by using a grass astroturf mat for the booties to sit on, the new package continues this theme in a much more earth-friendly way by including a packet of wild flower seeds to be spread & planted to your hearts content.

Each pair of Pleasantly Plump [Knits.] booties will now come packaged this way - perfect to give as a gift or keep for yourself!! Let me know what you think!

With the new blog design & a new month, I thought it would be fun to do a little q & a session to re-introduce myself & if you'd like, you can participate too...

I got the idea today from this post by the adorable Lauren of busy bee lauren! (who got it from here comes the sun) They have some fun questions, check them out!

I decided to do my own version, so here goes...

1. what is your first & middle name & current town? meghan kate (I currently use my maiden name, marple, as my middle name though) & I live in Atlanta, Ga (technically Marietta)

2. what was your favorite book growing up? I had a gazillion favorites (I read a lot as a kid) but the two that stick out in my mind are The Velveteen Rabbit by Margery Williams & A Wrinkle in Time by Madeleine L'Engle, they are still two of my favs!

3. what is an expression or word that you use often? I over-use the words awesome & amazing & I say "I want to shrink [enter cute person or thing] down & put them in my pocket" a lot. I also frequently use "PULL IT TOGETHER!"

4. what is your current favorite song &/or album? I have been listening to Adele's newest album on repeat lately & I can't stop listening to this sweet rendition of Moon River by the Honey Trees.

5. what is your favorite yummy indulgence? currently it's either a soy mocha coconut frappuccino from starbucks or any fruit flavored frozen yogurt from our local yogurtland (with coconut & lots of fresh fruit on top)

Happy June!!

I seriously can't believe it is June already...May flew by faster than April did. I love looking back on the posts I make each month to see what goals I was able to accomplish & give myself a little pat on the back even if I just managed to accomplish one or two of them.

I am proud of myself for conquering my little blog makeover this past month & I look forward to working on these recent new goals. I'm still knitting away on some new additions for the shop & finally have all the components to my package re-design (photos coming later this week).

Sorry it has been quiet on the blog this past week. I normally try to steer away from really personal stuff especially if it's sad, but my family lost a very, very special man last week; he played a different role in each of our lives but to me he was my sweet Granddaddy.

We spent the weekend celebrating his life; surrounded by all the people he loved the most, sharing stories, tears & hugs & remembering all the wonderful, funny things about this sweet little man. He was such an amazing person, he loved his family & had the ability to make anyone laugh regardless of their age. He lived a long, full, happy life & left the amazing legacy of three beautiful daughters, 6 grandchildren & 11 great-grandchildren. I feel so lucky to have been able to call him my Granddaddy.

His smile & laughter will live on in my heart forever.

new week - new goals

Aside from goofing off today....I plan on maybe getting some work done. This "work" I speak of includes making a list of some new goals for myself.

1. get some work done... (just kidding)

actively take better "real" photos - I added an "about" me page & in the interim of actually writing a bio, I went through & linked up some of my favorite blog posts to date. I was ashamed at how much I rely on my camera phone for blog content (disregard the camera phone photo in this post), bad girl. So in hopes to entice myself to take my good camera around with me, I sold my telephoto lens last week & traded it out for a new spiffy 50 mm lens. New camera gear makes me giddy. I'm looking forward to playing with it & taking better "real" photos!

for the love of film - right along side of taking better digital photos, I also want to start taking more with my film cameras. I will be adding a new feature to the blog - for the love of film - where I will be posting some of my favorite film cameras & some of my traditional photographs.

vloggin - *intimidating* I would love to try & vlog (video blog) at least once in the coming month. Why does it seem so scary to video tape yourself talking & broadcast it for all to see?! I'm not sure, but I guess that makes it good 'goal' material - forces you to step out of your comfort zone. We shall see if I am brave enough...

what I wore - I really want to try to add a few outfit posts here & there. This will also incorporate the better photos goal.

I suppose that's enough for now. Thank you for all the sweet blog re-design comments! I have been thoroughly enjoying the new layout - especially the fact that I can have BIGGER photos now!

wooohooo!! I finally gave my little blog a face lift! It took me all day but I finally figured everything out! It's amazing the difference a few changes can make! I am so happy with the outcome but will be tweaking & adding some other new simple things (like an about page & some sharing buttons, etc.) in the coming days.

I know I have posted one or two of the amazing vintage alarm clocks from Clockwork Universe before, but I seriously can't get enough of them. I frequently browse their shop to gaze upon all these sweet little clock faces....I would love a WHOLE collection of them on top of a dresser or overflowing on shelves or even all mounted on a big wall (how cool would that be?!?). They have so much personality & would bring sweet pops of color to any room. I'm just slightly obsessed & this means that starting yet another new collection is imminent. I would like to be able to say that I haven't posted in awhile because of blogger being down, but truth be told I'm just lazy (at least when it comes to blog posts).

I have, however, been working diligently on some new Pleasantly Plump [Knits.] packaging this week. (you can view the old packaging here).

Product packaging has always been a big deal to me, similar to my feelings on gift wrap, presentation is EVERYTHING! I love brainstorming ideas of packaging (even for products that aren't mine) & have been known to buy something just for the amazing packaging design alone. I also feel it's important to do all of my packaging in house - mainly just because it's a process that I really enjoy!!!

& although I loved my original design, it was time for a change. It has always bothered me that it isn't as eco-friendly as it could/should be. So I set out to change this...my new design is very simple, completely earth friendly while still incorporating aspects/themes of what I loved about the original design. I am pretty excited about it.

& after talking it up so much I am going to make you wait until I have a finalized, finished product before I share photos, because I'm mean like that. I am waiting on some important components - like custom made stamps! (eeeee! I get seriously excited about custom stamps!!)

the fence that love built...

Maybe you know what it's like to have dogs without a fenced in backyard...if so, you probably know that one or both of them will always-without-fail start doing the tee-tee dance at the most inconvenient times. Like right when you sit down to eat dinner, or right when you sit down on the couch to relax after a long day, or even RIGHT AFTER you already took them out & they wanted to sight see & eat grass instead of what they should be doing.

You also probably know that if you got said dog as a puppy that sometimes they make little mistakes in the house during potty training because you just didn't take them out in time. This event usually occurs after they whine & pace & you say "just one second...just hold on one more second" (because leashing them up & taking them out right at that moment seems like suuuuchhhh a hassle) & then BAM just like that they go right in front of you. Mine always make eye contact with me as they do their little deed as if to say "I told you I needed to go, next time perhaps you should listen."

& maybe it's just my two little mischievous puglets but sometimes they see putting on their harnesses as a fun (evil) game. I have no doubt as they tuck their sweet little curly tails & proceed to run circles around the kitchen table & around the ottoman & around the chairs in the living room that they are having such a great giggle at my expense- & who wouldn't laugh at a grown woman bent over with harness in hand chasing & tripping after her dogs.

We won't even go into the subject of inclement weather, like when we got 5 inches of freezing snow or when a monsoon hits & it's pouring outside & my dogs turn from sweet to diva as soon as their little paws touch something wet or cold. That's right, we won't go into this subject because it always ends in you having to hold the umbrella over them & you getting more drenched - or frozen - than they do because it's the only way...

So if you know all of this then you will know the little slice of heaven that comes in the form of a fenced in backyard. Especially one that you decide to install & build yourself (or in my case my sweet husband builds). This type of labor of love seems so big that a 'thank you' would never suffice, nope a simple 'thank you' couldn't possibly encompass all that you & those rascally pups will gain from such a huge gift.

The Perry house now has a fully functional fenced in backyard!! It is no doubt the fence that love built & oh the happiness & peace it has brought & will continue to bring this little family.

Oh how sweet freedom in the form of leash-less, ears flapping in the wind, content pups tastes! & to my Husband-Extraordinaire - you are a prince among men, I am truly lucky to have you as my partner in life!! There are no words to let you know how appreciative the puglets & I am for all your hard work!

We had such a fantastic weekend - filled with yummy dinner dates with friends, fun lunch shopping trips & plenty of snuggles - it was the perfect make-up birthday weekend!

Friday we went to a hibachi style restaurant - so so yummy!

Saturday we went on a little lunch date & did some shopping.

I kinda wish I could do it all over again! Pretty sure I could eat Panera everyday, especially with that handsome husband of mine (he's so cute!! I wanna shrink him down & put him in my pocket)!

I can't believe that it is already Thursday! This week has flown by! Last Saturday was my birthday but my sweet Creed came down with the flu on Friday afternoon. sadness. :(

So we cancelled all our celebration plans (I couldn't imagine celebrating my birthday without him) & I spent the weekend nursing him back to health. He's feeling much better now so we are having a make-up celebration this weekend & I can't wait! It's almost like I get two birthday weekends!

We started a little early by going on an impromptu froyo date today...he really is the cutest thing ever! I'm so glad he is on the mend.

[slightly obsessed with all things polaroid]

My love for polaroid cameras started early on in my life, it was the first working camera that was mine & mine alone. I proclaimed at around age 10 that I wanted a real camera, so my dad, being a cautious consumer, decided to buy me my first Polaroid camera (thanks dad! ♥). I think his decision was half based on knowing my young attention span wouldn't last long enough to wait for film to be developed & maybe half thinking it was just a passing phase & polaroids were relatively inexpensive - that is until you take into account all the film (& oh boy! did my 10 year old self blow through some film). I remember taking it to the zoo on multiple occasions & pretending to be a nature photographer, my brother even taught me how to position the lens in between the fences so I didn't get the cage in the shot - ha! Long story short - an obsession was born...I have a nice little collection of working polaroid cameras & camera backs but am always looking to expand! I've always been a fan of the Polaroid Land Camera - the one with rainbow racing stripes, it's actually one I don't have in my collection (yet)! Did you know that April happens to be my favorite of favorite months?!?! So many fun things to look forward to in April...

- my birthday!!! Yippee!! in about a week I will be celebrating turning 28 - eeek!

- that handsome mister you see above & I will be celebrating our 3rd year of marriage together! ♥

- I have been brainstorming ways to grow & develop my little business & look forward to following through with some of these changes this month

- spring always starts sprouting in April, I plan to take advantage with lots of puppy walks & family picnics

- this is yet another month to try & accomplish some of my 20 in 2011 list, I'm thinking #2 visit to a roller rink or #4 take a ride on a tandem bike sound perfectly appropriate for April

- I have lots of new blog changes planned, new post ideas & maybe even a new layout - fingers crossed April doesn't zip by like March did!

our weekend - we had to drop off our littlest bit, razzy star, at the vets on friday morning to get spayed. sadness. I hated leaving her, worst feeling ever. - I am convinced that our Olive missed her puggy friend something awful, she had that worried look on her face until we brought little R home. - Creed took me to the movies to take my mind off things, we saw SuckerPunch, his choice but totally worth seeing. I really enjoyed it, the graphics are amazing! - & that's pretty much it, we spent the rest of the weekend playing nurse to the littlest pug that could (so glad she is home & energetic enough that its been tough to keep her from running & jumping). ♥

We had a very low key relaxing weekend, the weather was amazing. I wore a tank top out in the wide world with no sweater for the first time this year, maybe it's just me but I always feel a little nakey the first time I don a tank top or shorts or a dress with no leggings every year when the weather warms up.

We grabbed a bite of my newest food obsession on Friday - Jimmy Johns or as I like to call it Jimmy Jack Johns (they have an amazing vegetarian sammy). We then had to stop for some froyo because it happens to be conveniently right across the street from JJ's.

On Saturday I got my bangs trimmed, cleaned the house a bit & watched Creed do some yard work because I'm supportive like that. :)

I love the process of having bangs...I don't mind them when they get long & love the side swept look but also get just as excited about having my bangs back when I get them trimmed.

I finished up the weekend lounging & playing with my little ladies, miss Razzy Star & sweet Olive Jane...there's no doubt they are the best cuddlers.

I woke up on this beautiful Monday morning feeling very refreshed & excited about starting over & getting tons of stuff done! This is my motto for the week-

I have been a working hard this week & spending most of my time in the studio.

But I have made sure to enjoy some of my simple pleasures as well, because after all I work for myself & make the rules! Here are some of the little things that make me smile...

1. Puggy walks!! Without these I don't think I could get much work done, these little ladies have tons of energy! The littlest one is getting so big.

2. Reading! I am *in love* with my kindle & use it everyday while I knit up orders. I just finished Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close by Foer (so so good) & decided this week to settle on a light young adult read - The Hunger Games trilogy. 3. Family time & thrifting! I was oh so lucky to get a visit from my parents this past weekend (I miss them already)! My mom is the thrifting queen & we spent the whole visit tearing up all my fav local thrift stores, we came away with so many goodies.

I found my all time favorite John Denver record for a whopping $.70! Annie's song - sigh...

4. Can I add my Iphone as a simple pleasure?! haha. I sadly don't know where I would be without it. My new favorite game is Tiny Wings. & I have gotten slightly attached to Instagram. I am such a visual person that I almost prefer it to Twitter, I enjoy getting to share & see snippets of peoples lives through the instagram feed - my username is meghanp if you have an account!

Yesterday was a big day for me, like jump up & down excitement big! A pair of my Pleasantly Plump booties made the pages of the March issue of Pregnancy & Newborn magazine!! It is a national magazine & one of the biggest compliments I have ever received! I feel extremely grateful & will probably celebrate the rest of the week! I can't think of a better way to start out March...I am just beside myself with happiness. [click on images to enlarge]

weekly fresh starts

We had a fabulously fantastic weekend! It included lunch dates & dinner dates with friends, lots of movie watching & snuggling & semi-trashy food eating (vegetarian corn dogs YUM, mac & chee & homemade Oscar pizzas).

Since I started working for myself, I get asked a lot if the weekends still feel fun & special to me & the answer is yes! It might be the years of living for the weekend during school & day jobs but Fridays still hold that special air of magic for me. It always feels like a weekly celebration. With that said, one of my favorite things about working for myself is that Mondays now hold a special feeling as well, it used to be a day I dreaded...a start over of a countdown until the end of the week, going through the motions of what someone else wanted me to do. Now Mondays feel more like a fresh start, a new beginning to my ever expanding (fun) to-do list & a chance to get newly inspired knowing I have a whole week to accomplish the things I want to do! It's rather exciting & I feel extremely grateful to be exactly where I am in my life right now. So happy happy Monday! (can you believe tomorrow is the first day of March!) hugs & cheek pecks.

The weather has been pretty awesome these last few days & is supposed to continue into the weekend! It's Friday, hip hip hooray! I have all the windows open in the house & I've just been daydreaming about owning one of these dreamboats & drifting down long winding roads, enjoying the scenery & picnics & whatnots.

We had the most fantastic valentines day! We sang happy birthday to the puggy birthday girl (she got a hamburger toy & was so excited), Creed surprised me with a trip to the sweetest local French bakery for breakfast, so so yummy, cupid came & brought some fun prezzies, we went to our most favorite sushi place for dinner & then we came home & enjoyed some heart-shaped cheesecakes (that almost caused me to burn down the house when I made them, but thats a story for another day). ♥ ♥ ♥

I just love this loveface. My one & only valentine. This was our 9th valentines day together & they just keep getting better. (love you now & forever creedperryhusbandextraordinaire)

Anybody else excited that it's almost Valentine's Day?!?! Eeeeppp! I love seeing all the red & flowers & loving going on. We usually keep it low key & just use this heart-filled holiday as an excuse to hold hands & snuggle more. Though, I am planning to make an extra special dessert ♥....shhhh don't tell. Valentines day is also special in our household because it is little Olive's birthday - she will be the big T-W-O! They grow up so fast ;), she will get extra treats for sure!

The following image was going to be our Valentines Card this year, but alas I waited too late (again) to get some printed up & sent out in time. A digital copy will have to do!

side note - [At this point, if you've been following my blog, you can probably tell that I am crazy in love with my mustard yellow chair (we do have other seating in our house, swear!). It is my happiest thrift shop find to-date ($20) & it also resides in the room with the best natural light, hence all the photographs. I only wish it had a twin.]

vintage camera display

YAY! I finished #16 on my 20 things to do in 2011 list - displaying some of my vintage cameras. I was wholly inspired by this photo by Tim Melideo Photography that I originally saw in this guest post by Hula Seventy on Poppytalk.

I had some frames on hand from a buy one get one sale & just used some Command frame strips to attach the cameras to the wall, the strips are similar to velcro but supposedly don't leave a residue & will be easy to change out if I decide to mix up the display later on. Here are some peeks...

It is a super easy way to make a dynamic display & I really love how it turned out! I look forward to expanding on it. It feels so good to be crossing things off my list, 2011 has been magnificent so far! Happy Wednesday lovies! xo.

I'm just a tiny bit smitten with these lomo camera Valentine's editions...I feel my already large camera collection is lacking in the hot pink area, that's proper justification for owning these right?!?! I'm not really sure if I love the act of actually taking photographs or if it's just the act of collecting amazing cameras...either way, I am in love ♥.
