embracing life

Today I was taking the pugs on their afternoon walk, the sky was covered in gray, growling, thunderous clouds, there was a slight wind & it was so calm & beautiful.  The air held that sweet smell of impending rain. I thought the rain would hold out long enough for us to get home, but alas mother nature had other plans & we were caught about a block & a half away from home in the middle of a torrential downpour - complete with wind & huge, full raindrops. I fought it at first, I was put out that I was now getting completely soaked. The umbrella that I had brought with us, "just in case," flipped inside out because the winds were so strong & my stubborn pug, Olive, decided she was having none of it & was refusing to walk, while the other one, Razzy, was pulling as hard as she could on the leash in the direction of home. I felt overwhelmed & frustrated but my next reaction surprised me - uncontrollable laughter - I just threw my arms up & gave in & I laughed harder than I have in a long time. Still laughing, I turned & started jogging towards the house. The rain had started coming down harder & from all directions & I have the clearest mental memory of looking down at Razzle as we ran (Olive was still dragging behind us, that princess doesn't "get" wet) & there was a moment that Razzy looked back up at me, I swear she was smiling a little puggy smile. I really think she was having fun & all was well in the world at that moment. It was ridiculous & silly & we were soaked to the bone but it didn't matter. The rain actually felt good, it felt cleansing. It was a reminder that I can't control everything, that some things just happen the way they are going to happen & I should embrace it.

It reminded me of a quote that I saw making it's rounds on Pinterest lately :

"Embrace the current season of your life."

The quote is by Gabrielle Blair of Design Mom in a post she did about work life balance. She goes on further in her post to say "Embrace your current life. And when it's hard to embrace, know the next season is coming faster than you think."

Those words couldn't mean more to me at this time. I want to embrace exactly where we are right now in our life. I get so caught up I forget to enjoy all the tiny things. I get lost in what is supposed to be happening next that I forget to just breathe & enjoy the "now." I'm not always going to have the energy to accomplish everything I want to accomplish, I'm going to have bad days & sad days but I'm also going to have happy & productive days. Some things won't go as I planned & I won't be able to control everything. It will be a perfectly imperfect life & I will embrace it, every second of it.

Do you ever feel like the universe gives you a little kick in the pants?! An "aha" moment, where you know you just have to let go & just be?! Hope everyone has a great week!

fringe frenzy

I've been slightly obsessed with all things fringe lately! I thought I would share some of my recent fringe-y finds (& some diy's, too). Enjoy!

She made this with an old tshirt! I have plans to make this at an upcoming craft night this Saturday, I think making it in a bright color will be fun!

fringe bag 1 & fringe bag 2 - urban outfitters

fringe garland diy - by Prudent Baby

fringe moccasins -  Minnetonka
I seriously can't wait to wear boots again!!

I think these would make such fun gift to make for friends & family!

Looking forward to making some of these (& daydreaming about owning the others)! What fashion details are you into lately?! xo. Meghan

currently...

currently, I am:

loving: anything that has fringe on it - shoes, bags, shirts - I'm loving them all. In fact, I will be back tomorrow with a fringe inspired post including some of my recent fringy favorites.

reading: I am going back & forth between The Age of Miracles & The Night Circus. Both are very easy, fun reads.

watching: I almost feel embarrassed admitting this (only almost embarrassed), but I started the show Pretty Little Liars from the beginning on netflix a few weekends ago out of sheer boredom & I got hooked. I seriously never thought it would be a show I could get into, but I didn't realize it was so murder mystery-esque & now I am a PLL fan for life...I just watched the season 2 finale today, if anyone wants to fangirl with me, because -holy moly- it was intense!

anticipating: dare I admit that I am ready for Fall?!?! I know it's too soon & I will continue to enjoy every bit of what's left of the summer BUT Fall is by far my favorite...I'm ready for boots, apple cider, cooler weather, pumpkin muffins & pretty much everything else that Fall has to offer.

listening to: I've been a bit nostalgic lately - listening to some of my favorite older bands that remind me of summer time, like The Sundays. They remind me of my college days & the summer I met Creed (my husband, Creed, not the band Creed, because that would be ridiculous).

planning: My parents booked their tickets to come see me in September (yay!!) so I have been planning what we will do during their visit! They will be with me for a whole week & I haven't seen my mom since last November! (I'm so excited!)

working on: redefining my blog space to add more content (diy's & such) & also reaching out to other bloggers that I admire & read on a daily basis, but never make time to comment. I deleted my feed-reader app off my iphone to help with this. I have such a bad habit of reading blogs on my phone, on the go & have full intentions to go back & comment but never do. So, now I will only read them on the computer & hopefully have stronger interactions. I've met so many amazing, like-minded people through the blogging community & think it's important to not only foster those relationships but also be supportive & uplifting.

wishing: for more hours in the day...or perhaps better time management skills. ha! I have a few house projects that I'm dying to start working on but I need to iron out the details on how I'm going to make them first. Wishing/hoping I figure them out soon...

I originally saw the "currently" meme on Danielle's blog, Sometimes Sweet. It was fun to play along, I'd love to see what you're up to currently, feel free to link up in the comments section!

favorite summer recipe roundup

I have been trying lots of new summer-y recipes recently & I have found some winners that we pretty much crave every night. These are all super easy to make, vegetarian (although you could add meat to most, if you so desired) & crazy delicious but don't take my word for it...try them out for yourself!!

I made this with red quinoa because it's what I had on hand & oh my!!! it's so delicious!!

These are by far my favorite & so easy to make! My favorite part about Katie's recipe though, is the Spicy Peanut Sauce - I seriously could eat it by the spoonful!

Quinoa Fruit Salad with Honey Lime Dressing by Two Peas & Their Pod
This is even great for breakfast & the quinoa adds a little bit of protein! YUM!

Creed was craving potato salad for our 4th of July picnic so I decided to try out this super easy recipe, I am not a huge fan of mayonaise so I really loved how light this was.

I always make a double batch of these & freeze them, so we always have some on hand when I don't feel like cooking! They taste good with a bun or just on there own with a side of salsa & sour cream!

I also made these for our 4th of July picnic & they are already all gone!! They were soooo good! I can't wait to make them again!

Okay, now I'm starving!! I hope you enjoy & feel free to share some of your favorite summertime meals in the comments section! I'm always looking for new recipes to try! Happy Friday! xo.

our 4th of July

We had a very relaxed 4th. All the surrounding firework shows were cancelled because of the recent wildfires so I cooked a lot of yummy things, we watched some movies & took the dogs out for a little walk - realized it was too HOT & then came back in, ate more food & watched more movies! I worked on some orders in between all of that & all in all, it turned out to be a perfect, lazy 4th of July celebration! Here are a few snapshots of the day...

That Olive dog....she's a mess - always chewing on something. I hope everyone in the U.S. had a safe & fun holiday! I will be back tomorrow with a list of my recent favorite summer recipes!! I have been trying lots of new yummy things!

weekend fun

We were lucky enough to be asked by our new friends, RobbieLee (from chickiedee handmade) & her husband, Ron to go to the Rockies game with them on Friday night! I actually met RobbieLee through instagram & we have hit it off from the beginning! It was mine & Creed's first Rockies game & we all had a blast! We even got to go out on the field after the game to watch the fireworks show....such a perfect summer night!

My dad was also in Denver for work related stuff this weekend so we were able to have dinner with him on Thursday night & then he got to stay with us on Saturday. It made for a very fun & packed weekend & it made it hard to get back into the swing of things today, but alas it's Monday.

p.s. My little shop is sponsoring the amazing blog, Today's Letters for the month of July! Go check it out (I included a little discount code for all of their readers!) Happy Monday!
